Vacation?

I'm trying to figure out how old my children will have to be before I'll get back in the car with them. Settling on a specific number is really moot. The point is that I don't expect to live that long.

It took us 27 hours to go 800 miles. One or the other was screaming for 21 of those 27 hours. Around hour 17 Amy was already suggesting we just fly back and leave our car to be consumed by Colorado wildlife. Around hour 25 Stacey decided that she was never having children of her own. And in every single hour our carefully prepared arsenal of Pixar dvd's, Raffi cd's, and bought and borrowed toys hit the girls with all the effect of creme pies thrown at a brigade oncoming tanks. I will do this again when they perfect teleportation.

But I digress. What I meant to say was, we've arrived. And that for literally no reason that I can currently remember, other than that we already had a name picked out, we've gone and gotten Amy pregnant again. Mars should arrive January 8th, which you of course know is also my birthday, along with my father's. And Elvis'. So... feel free to plan your visit or escape accordingly. Should this development leave you lying awake worried that my brood might come to your house and waterboard your ears with their cries in triplicate, rest assured that unless you live within walking distance or someone invents a cattle trailer for children, you are safe.

So where did you make it to? 800 miles from Austin would seem like you are still in some desert, or perhaps Mobile, Alabama.

Congrats on Mars!

Driving never improves. Will not always be as tortuous as crying, but that gives way to ungodly numbers of potty stops and then eventually the cliched "are we there yet" phase. Recommend renting a van. Not mini, but HUGE. Like 2-3 rows of empty seats between you and the movies, video games, cheetos munching, etc.

For teenage years I'm thinking a car with malfunctioning rear window washers will keep them entertained for very long periods of time.

You're right. It was more like 1000 miles. Given the experience I'd have expected myself to over rather than underestimate.

Michael left off the fighting...over the front seat, the radio, the air conditioner, the air they breath. The fighting is also fun.

Did I ever tell you about the time we tried to make a point with Kaitlin by dropping her by the side of the road on a family vacation?? Could not get her out of the car because she is so strong and had a death grip on the head rest. Good times...making memories! You'll miss these days sooner than you think.

Add my brother to the January 8th list....and they have a new baby on the way due on the 6th...so we might just have to make the 8th a national holiday or something.

Congrats on the new little one! Thank God someone else is in the pregnancy boat with me...

Hope you guys make it back...only to be punished with the "week after vacation" hangover that Roanin ALWAYS pulls after we go somewhere far. It is almost worse than the car ride. Good luck....
